Review: Beyond Temptation by Kit Rocha(part of "Marked" anthology)

Title: Beyond Temptation
Series: Beyond #3.5
Author: Kit Rocha

Kit Rocha returns to Sector Four in BEYOND TEMPTATION. A promise to a dying friend backfires when Noah Lennox finds that the girl he was supposed to rescue is all grown up--and wearing O'Kane ink. He wants to protect her from the secrets of their past, but she wants him. And an O'Kane woman always gets what she wants.

I read the novella a few weeks ago, but I didn’t know how to write the review for it. It was such a good story, and, unlike other novellas, it didn’t leave me feel unsatisfied. They usually gloss over the characters and the action and you don’t really know what it’s left to actually read…

Kit Rocha, on the other hand, wrote it perfectly: we knew Emma from before, we knew enough about her to be intrigued, but not too much to ask ourselves why they wrote the damn thing. Noah is another story: we knew he was a god at hacking and that he was connected to Emma somehow, but that was it. It was a pleasure[wrong word choice, but go with it :D] to read about their past and their relationship. Emma is a strong woman who has survived very much, I admire her. She didn’t give up, she pursued her art and made a life and family for herself with the O’Kanes.

Noah, before meeting Emma again, was bent on revenge, he didn’t care about his life or his future, he only wanted to make Sector 5’s leader pay. When he heard that the O’Kanes had Emma, he was sure she was abducted, he couldn’t believe that the sweet, artistic girl he knew transformed into this tough, resilient woman in front of him. Emma kind of has her work cut out from under her: trying to make Noah believe in her and her choices, and more importantly, in a future together.

Watching them together, getting to know each other again and deciding if they really wanted to be together and that it wasn’t only for the people they used to be was what made this novella so good for me. It wasn’t a “oh, my first love, let’s be together forever” kind of story, they actually had to understand how the other had changed and to accept the new people they had become. Besides this, the O’Kanes made this story great :D Their interactions, the family they made from nothing, is really inspiring. The glimpses of Dallas and Lex, Noelle and Jasper and the way Ms. Rocha set the stage for “Beyond Jealousy” made me want the book even more… and made me re-read the 1st 3 books in the series.
